Expert Concrete Slab Contractors in Sydney
A properly constructed concrete slab is the foundation of any great structure — whether it's a garden shed, garage, house extension, granny flat, patio or commercial flooring. Get the slab wrong and everything built on top of it is compromised. Concrete Works Sydney delivers plain concrete slabs across the Sydney region, built with the structural integrity, correct reinforcement and quality finishes that ensure long-term performance under load, across seasons and through decades of use.
As experienced concrete slab contractors, we manage every aspect of slab construction in-house — from initial site assessment and excavation through to formwork, steel reinforcement, concrete pouring and finishing. Whether you need a small garden slab for a water tank or clothesline pad, a large concrete shed slab for a kit shed or workshop, or a structural concrete slab house foundation for a new build or extension, our team has the expertise and equipment to deliver on time and on budget.

We pour all concrete slab types commonly used in residential and light commercial construction. Ground slabs (also called slab-on-ground) are our most common project — poured directly onto prepared, compacted ground with steel mesh reinforcement and control joints. For house foundations, we construct raft slabs with integrated edge beams and internal stiffening beams, engineered to your building plans and soil conditions. We also pour suspended slabs, garage slabs with vehicle-rated thickness, and simple utility pads for garden equipment, hot tubs and air conditioning units.
Every slab we pour uses premium concrete mixes from suppliers like Holcim, specified to the correct strength grade (typically 25–40 MPa depending on application) and reinforced with steel mesh or bar to engineering specifications. We don't guess at slab thickness or reinforcement — every specification is based on the intended load, soil conditions and building requirements. That's the difference between a slab that lasts and one that cracks within a few years.
Concrete Slab Services We Provide
Concrete Shed Slabs
One of our most popular services. We pour concrete shed slabs to the exact specifications required by your shed kit or custom build — with proper sub-base compaction, edge thickening where needed, steel mesh reinforcement and a smooth or broom finish. Whether it's a small garden shed or a large workshop, the slab is the most important part of the build. Get it right and your shed sits level, stays dry and lasts a lifetime.
Garage & Carpark Slabs
Heavy-duty concrete slabs for garages, carports and vehicle parking areas. These slabs are engineered to handle vehicle loads with appropriate thickness (typically 125–150mm), reinforcement and joint placement. We pour garage slabs with smooth or broom finishes and can integrate drainage channels or pit covers where required.
House Foundation Slabs
We construct concrete slab house foundations including ground slabs and raft slabs, engineered to your building plans and compliant with Australian building standards. Every house foundation slab includes appropriate steel reinforcement, moisture barriers, termite management systems (where required) and edge beams sized to the engineer's design. We coordinate with your builder and engineer to ensure the slab is right before the frame goes up.
Garden Slabs & Utility Pads
Smaller concrete slabs for garden sheds, water tanks, hot tubs, clothesline pads, air conditioning units and general utility areas. Even small slabs benefit from proper preparation — a water tank on a poorly prepared slab will crack and settle. We build every slab to the same high standard regardless of size.
Concrete Patios & Entertaining Areas
Create a level, durable outdoor entertaining area with a plain concrete patio slab. We offer smooth trowel, broom-finished or coloured surfaces — or upgrade to exposed aggregate or stamped concrete for a decorative finish. Patio slabs are poured with proper drainage falls to prevent water pooling and with isolation joints where they meet your house to prevent cracking.

Why Choose Concrete Works Sydney for Your Slab
Correct Engineering, Every Time
We don't guess at slab thickness or reinforcement. Every slab is specified based on its intended load, soil conditions and building requirements — whether it's a simple garden pad or a structural house foundation. Getting the specification right is the single most important factor in slab longevity, and it's where cheap concreters cut corners.
Premium Concrete Mixes
We use quality concrete mixes from Holcim and other leading suppliers, specified to the correct strength grade for each application (25 MPa for light-duty slabs, 32–40 MPa for driveways, garages and house foundations). No shortcuts, no undersized mixes, no guessing.
Full-Service Slab Contractors
Excavation, sub-base compaction, formwork, steel fixing, concrete pouring and finishing — we handle every stage of concrete slab construction in-house with our own experienced crew. You deal with one team, one point of contact and one standard of quality from dig to finish.

How We Build Your Concrete Slab
1
Site Assessment & Quote
We inspect your site, discuss your slab's intended use, review any building plans or shed specifications, assess access and ground conditions, and provide a transparent, itemised quote with no hidden costs.
2
Excavation & Ground Preparation
We excavate to the required depth, remove any unsuitable material (topsoil, fill, organic matter) and compact the sub-grade to a stable, level surface. For house slabs, this includes installing moisture barriers, termite systems and any required plumbing penetrations.
3
Formwork & Steel Reinforcement
Formwork is set to exact levels, dimensions and falls. Steel mesh or bar reinforcement is then placed on chairs at the correct height within the slab, tied and fixed to engineering specifications. For house slabs, edge beams and internal stiffening beams are formed and reinforced separately.
4
Concrete Pour
We coordinate concrete delivery, pour and vibrate the slab, then screed to a flat, level surface. Control joints are cut at the correct spacing to manage shrinkage cracking. For larger slabs, we use a concrete pump to ensure consistent placement across the full area.
5
Soft Cutting & Handover
Once the concrete has been finished to your chosen specification — smooth trowel, broom or wood float — we soft-cut control joints at the correct spacing to manage shrinkage and prevent uncontrolled cracking across the slab. We then clean up the site and hand over your completed concrete slab, ready for the next stage of your build. For shed slabs and utility pads, the surface is ready for light foot traffic after a minimum of 3 days and full loading after 28 days.
